Year 4 get Shakespearean for The Tempest
We’re working with West Yorkshire Playhouse again this year on a production of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. This is the third year our academy has been involved in the “Primary Players Project” with The West Yorkshire Playhouse.
This year, 120 Year 4s from two schools in the region come together to work and perform Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ at the famous Quarry Hill (WYP) on the June 5th 2018, 6pm.
The West Yorkshire Players have been coming into the Academy to help Year 4 learn their lines and understand some of the old fashioned language in the play.
We have been involving parents in the project through Home Learning by exploring William Shakespeare’s rise to becoming a world famous British playwright; looking at his life, his work in general and The Tempest in particular.
Pupils have an picked the area of interest to explore about Shakespeare. Pariza in Mrs Mpofu’s class decided to research Shakespeare’s life. With the help of her family, she worked to research and produce a fantastic PowerPoint.
She then presented her presentation to an audience, with confidence and was even able to answer questions from the audience! Her teachers and classmates were very impressed by how much she knew and understood.
Year 4 have also found cross curricular links to The Tempest, in literacy, Computing and topic which all year 4s continue to enjoy. We know that Year 4 are going to remember this positive opportunity for a long time.
