Co-op Eco Conference

Members of the Eco Committee attend the Eco Conference in Manchester

Members of the Eco Committee joined other children from across the Co-op schools as part of the annual eco conference. The children presented in front of the other delegates and explained what our academy had focussed on over the past year. They spoke of the plans for a peace garden and the joint effort of all our school community to tackle litter.

Throughout the day, we were incredibly lucky to meet some fantastic people who inspired us on our eco journey. At the start fo the day we enjoyed looking around Angel Square at the different habitats that were available for other creatures with the Royal Horticultural Society.

Myco Manchester taught us about the importance of worms and even taught us how to make our own wormery. We were very interested in this and thought that they were fun guys or is that fungi?

Fair and Funky taught us about the 6 Rs (Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair). We even got to make our very own milk bottle swallow. We discovered that something which is thrown away every day can be made into something that brings happiness and joy.

Fair and Funky also brought along a smoothie bike. Pupils peddled in order to make the mixer work to create their own banana smoothie. We definitely had to work hard for our day.

Sow the City showed us how to make wild flower bombs. Using clay and wild flower seeds, we created balls which can be thrown into our environment to bring little bursts of joy when they grow. We cannot wait to see what will grow from our flower bombs.
