Spring week 5 Newsletter

Spring week 5 newsletter. Children’s mental health week, Peace Mala week and Inner East Summit

Children’s mental health week

In school, we have completed activities for Children’s Mental Health Week. Each class has focussed on things that are important to them and how these help them to be happy. Lots of children shared that their family and friends were important for them to be happy and for them to have good mental health. We hope that families have a wonderful time over the February half-term and share in activities together which make them happy.

Peace Mala week

During Peace Mala Week, each class learnt about a different religion. Pupils across school shared an assembly on Wednesday and presented their learning. Reception pupils showed us their stained glass windows, Year 3 shared some yoga moves they learnt, Year 5 shared the importance of tai-chi and Year 4 shared their Peace Mala doves. Year 2 shared that all religions had things in common such as prayer, giving to charity and special celebrations.

Inner East Summit

Miss Mpofu and Mrs Shrotall took a group of pupils to Leeds Civic hall where they met the inspirational Lord Mayor of Leeds, Al Garthwaite. The children also met and had long conversations with a few people, including our local councillor, Asghar Ali. Special mentions and shout outs to C and S who showed great displays of leadership skills, knowledge and understanding throughout the day in all situations -  they truly were ambassadors of Oakwood.
