Headteacher Announcement📢

What a busy term it has been! We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 and Year 2 pupils and staff. We would like to thank all of our staff for supporting our pupils through their SATs.

Highlights from this term include: Victorian Day in Year 1, trips to Roundhay Park (Year 1) and Lotherton Hall (Year 2), Co-op Sports Tournament for KS2 pupils and we are looking forward to more trips next term.

Jubilee celebrations were in full swing and pupils enjoyed making stamps, baking shortbread, creating bunting and a range of other activities.

Today, Year 3 took part in a Football Tournament against other Trust schools. Well done to all of the children who took part. Congratulations to Class 8’s football team who won the whole tournament!

We break up today and return Monday 6 June. We wish all of our families a restful and peaceful holiday.

Reading & Phonics📖

Well done to all of the children who achieved 100 reads. We are incredibly proud that you are reading at home with your families.

Skills Builder and Careers Related Learning

During the week beginning 20th June, we will be having a Skills Builder Challenge Week. Keep an eye out for tasks you can get involved in, with your child. Next half term, we will be focusing on the Teamwork element of our Skills Builder framework.

Safeguarding

In June, Year 5 and 6 will be attending an assembly all about weapon awareness delivered by the Inner East Cluster.

Governors

Our governors met last week and discussed important matters. They talked about reading, progress of pupils, pupil wellbeing and plans for the future. Did you know, Helen Whitworth is our Chair of Governors? She works for the Co-op business and has been the Chair for 4 years.

Community

Date for your diaries, Gipton Gala – Sunday 10 July – Fearnville Fields.

Attendance

Please can we remind all of our families that the school day starts at 8:45am. If your child is later, they are missing vital lesson time. Lately, the amount of children coming into school late has risen considerably.

Did you know?

Minutes Late Per Day How Many School Days / School Weeks Missed In 1 Year
5 Minutes 3.4 School Days
10 Minutes 1.4 School Weeks
15 Minutes 2.6 School Weeks
20 Minutes 2.8 School Weeks
30 Minutes 4 School Weeks

Please be aware if your child arrives after 9am, they will be given a late mark in the register.

Our attendance figure for the year at the moment is 93.2%. This is lower than in pervious years. Let’s work together to increase this during next term.
